How about Art?

For years I've been collecting scenes from motion pictures which deal with Art and Artists. These films at once shape and mirror popular conceptions of how artists work, how they find their ideas and how they live. But they also show the people who look at art, who talk about art and who sell or buy art. Based on my archive, which includes films from 1924 to 2020, I have assembled 14 new narratives.
The title How about Art? is a quotation from Mike Nichols’ film The Graduate (1967). My films mirror rituals of the art world such as the opening of an exhibition, or or expose the stereotypes that still determine the image of male and female artists today. And they illustrate how cinema has replaced (art)history by its fictions.
